What is TribeTV?

The Radio & Television course at Mississinewa High School is an immersive experience in multi-media design. This two year program allows students to produce live events and shows while working on developing technology skills that build toward their own personal goals. Some of the roles students experience are:

  • Pro Audio/Video
  • Drone Media
  • 360 Media, VR, & AR
  • Streaming & Network Design
  • Journalism
  • Marketing & Advertising
  • Social Media Management
  • Web Design
  • Photography
  • Graphic Design & Print Media
  • Public Speaking & Podcasting

One of the foundations of the course is providing the students a pathway to succeed in a technology venture that fosters their career, or post-high school, ambitions. Each student begins the year by reflecting on what they want to learn, and then creating their own pathway to an end product that will not only enhance their portfolio, but enrich the TribeTV experience and team.

Former student Isaac Scott spent his senior year of TribeTV working with Reaper and digital audio workflows to produce not only podcasts, but music. Scott even teamed up with a high school student who produces rap music to collaborate on a remix of Bulls on Parade by Rage Against the Machine.

Sophomore Ryan Scott is in his third year with TribeTV, and is working on sports journalism by writing a daily article, Tribe Sports Daily, for the school’s website. He also leads the Tribe Sports Network as the student-director to learn sports management, and the technology background behind broadcast announcing.

In the first semester (18 weeks) of the course, students learn a program, piece of software, or the skills needed to produce over the next two years. First year student Corbin Ritter is studying Adobe Character Animator, which will lead to his current passion of voicing character animation. Other students can gain knowledge, for example, in Photoshop, Illustrator, digital audio workflows, Wirecast or OBS, and Premiere Pro.

TribeTV is a product of over 7 years of development, and started off prior to that as “RatTV” with Pam Wilson, and her courses in web design, and introduction to media. Students in the original RatTV produced shows for Mississinewa High School, including “The Big Show” which were aired on the schools CCTV particularly for school announcements. Students in Wilson’s courses also helped design and maintain the school website at the time.

This year TribeTV will bring the school and community over 200 live events, provide news and information across multiple social media platforms, and create/collaborate with it’s team and the school community in multimedia production.
