The Mississinewa Lady Indians tennis team began the IHSAA Girls tennis sectional yesterday evening with a match against cross county rival Marion. Haleigh Rowley played #1 Singles against Marion’s Mckenzie Nelson. Haleigh would win the match 6-3 and 6-0. At #2 Singles you would have Haleigh’s sister Heidi Rowley taking on Clare Hendricks, Heidi won her first set 6-4 and ended winning the match. And then the match everyone had their eyes on was the #3 Singles match between Tyra Stanley and Elizabeth Wuertley. Stanley fell down 0-1 in the first game and came back to win the first set 6-4. Stanley also won the 2nd set at 6-2. The #1 doubles went into a third set with the doubles team would win the first set 6-3, lose the second set 1-6, and in set number three they battled to the very end losing 4-6. The Lady Indians knocked off Marion 3-2 in the first round allowing them to have a chance at history this evening. Tonight The Mississinewa Girls Tennis team has a chance to become a sectional champion for the first time in school history.  They will battle Madison Grant tonight at 5pm at Marion High School. Haleigh Rowley will be the #1 Singles, Heidi Rowley will be at #2 Singles and the undefeated Tyra Stanley will be at #3 Singles. The #1 doubles team will be comprised of 2 Seniors, Heavyn Miller and Gabby Stephenson. And the #2 doubles team will be Senior Abigail Tignor and Sophomore Maggie Herring. Stanley Adds Her Name To The History Book

After regular season success, Going 20-0, Sophomore Tyra Stanley still wants more as Sectionals approach. Tyra joins Cassie Fleming in 2007, Fleming was 14-0 in the regular season before she lost in the 5th round of the state tournament. The most recent person to go undefeated in the regular season was Sarah Osborne in the 2014 season. Sarah lost in the 2nd round of the state tournament. Talent may just run in the Stanley family, Tyra’s sister (Mason) and her teammate Abby Fleming, were 2015 state finalist and both were named to the 2015 1st team all state. Tyra Stanley becomes the first Sophomore in Girls Tennis history to have an undefeated season at 20-0. As a team The Lady Indians Tennis Team won the CIC Conference defeating Madison Grant to seal the deal, the Lady Indians ended the regular season 13-2. A fun fact to add about Girls Tennis is they have had the most consistency over the last decade with wins in a season. I had the chance to talk to Tyra on Friday and asked her how cool it would be to go undefeated. “It would be really cool, I’m trying my best”. “As a team I feel we have done very well, knowing we won the Conference is great we worked really hard this season” said Stanley. The IHSAA Girls Tennis State Tournament begins this Wednesday for the Lady Indians at Marion High School beginning at 5pm. Stay tuned to @DaltonBishop00 @MHSTribeTV and @MCSCAthletics on Twitter for updates as we will have coverage of the MHS Girls Tennis Team on Wednesday.

Stanley Talks About Her Undefeated Season- “It feels awesome to go undefeated and to have been added to school history. My biggest reason for success has been my coach who has believed in me and who has put hundreds of hours into practice. I also have to thank my family who makes sure I make it to every match, My incredible team who makes it so much fun to play with.”
